Why The Prohibition Must End!

Today I’ve decided to write to you all about the drug prohibition and why it must end. The prohibition is causing more trouble than the drugs themselves and I’m going to tell you how.

Let’s begin with the fact that drug charges are classified as criminal charges. This is bad because as we know, teenagers are experimental, majority of teenagers try their luck with at least one drug, and a lot of them are getting caught and charged as criminals. These criminal charges prevent them from doing a lot of things in life, getting the job they desire, travelling overseas etc… A mistake some body makes as an adolescent shouldn’t reflect their life it’s unfair. The prohibition is turning our kids into criminals.

Legalizing drug consumption would reduce state and federal deficits by eliminating costs of enforcing the prohibition. Costs which include but are not limited to arrests, prosecutions and detainment. In 2009 housing drug related prisoners had a large cost to the US Federal Government at an approximate 2,094,510,000 dollars. Decriminalization of drugs would mean a saving of 25.7 billion dollars for the state and local Government, aswell as 15.6 billion dollars for the federal government… Annually. In 2008 The federal Government spent 15.6 Billion dollars enforcing prohibition, 3.4b spent on Marijuana, 7.1b on cocaine, 1.24b on heroin and 3.9b used to fight other drugs.

We also can’t forget the undeniable medical benefits that marijuana brings us, both mental and physical. A proven, effective medication for cancer, as well as glaucoma, Multiple Sclerosis, Chronic Pain, Depression, Anxiety, stress etc… Millions of people all around the earth are experiencing these medical benefits first hand, both legally and illegally and They’re working for the most of them. The main chemical in marijuana tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) actually makes cancer cells commit suicide, the Government knew this back in the 70’s but kept the studies hidden from us.

This is Just my 2 cents though, I could continue on but I’ll keep it short for you guys. Any opinions?
